SCREW CONVEYOR

OVERVIEW

    
A screw conveyor is a material handling equipment to convey the material for shorter distance by shear and tumbling effect. Constructional feature comprises of staionary housing of U or circular trough with a rotating screw shaft with a Helix shaped flight mounted on it. Flight normally will have hard facing on the leading side on the periphery of helix. Shaft is generally supported at end on bearing to take up radial and thrust load.

Drive coupled directly or through transmission chain sprocket arrangement, which transmits from motor to screw shaft. Equipment is used for conveying granular to fine powder, dry to hygroscopic products.
  
     

TECHNICAL DETAILS

    
  • Standard screw conveyors are made outof carbon steel, stainless steel or hot dipped galvanize for operation under corrosive conditions.
  • Diameter of screw is decided as per CEMA standard and generally in 6", 9", 12", 14" & 16".
  • The pitch of the screw flight varies according to CEMA standard and will 1:1, 1:2/3, 1:1/2, 1:3/2.
  • Hanger bearings are provided for screw conveyor having conveying length more 6 meters.
  • Screw conveyor angular speed selection in order to avoid wobbling effect during operation.
  • Trough filling factor ranging from 15% to 95% according to nature of material.
